This policy explains the small pieces of data the Motherland Legal website stores in your browser. We keep this to the minimum needed for the site to work well. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking or social media pixels, and we do not share browser data with advertisers.
1. What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small text file a website places in your browser. Local storage is a similar mechanism built into modern browsers that lets a site remember information on your device without sending it back to the server on every request. Most of what this site remembers lives in local storage, which means it never leaves your device unless you submit a form.
2. What we store and why
The following items are stored in your browser's local storage:
| Item | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| Theme preference | Remembers whether you chose light, dark or system appearance so the site does not flash on the next visit. | Until you clear browser data |
| Recent searches | Keeps your last few searches on the site so you can return to a law, procedure or article quickly. | Last 10 searches, until cleared |
| Tool drafts | Saves unfinished answers in the Legal Issue Finder and Document Checklist so a page refresh does not lose your progress. | Until the tool is completed or cleared |
| Dismissed notices | Records that you closed a banner (such as the demonstration-content notice) so it is not shown again. | Until you clear browser data |
None of these items identify you personally, and none are read by anyone other than your own browser. Drafts entered in tools are stored only on your device until you choose to submit them.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
When you book a consultation or submit a form, the site may set a short-lived session cookie to protect the request against forgery and to keep multi-step forms working. These cookies contain a random token, not personal information, and expire when you close the browser or within 24 hours.
4. Analytics
We currently rely on anonymised server logs (page requested, approximate time, browser type) to understand which resources are useful. Logs are not linked to your name or enquiry and are deleted after 90 days. If we introduce an analytics tool in future, this policy will be updated first and any such tool will be configured without cross-site tracking.
5. Third-party content
Some pages link to Google Maps, YouTube or government portals. We do not embed third-party scripts on our pages; following a link takes you to that provider's site, where their own cookie policy applies.
6. How to clear or block stored data
- Clear everything for this site: in most browsers, open Settings, then Privacy or Site data, find motherlandlegal.com.np and choose Clear or Delete. This removes your theme preference, recent searches, drafts and dismissed notices.
- Clear a single item: the search box has a “Clear recent searches” option and each tool has a “Start over” button that discards its draft.
- Block storage entirely: browsers allow you to block cookies and site data. The site will still work, but preferences will reset on every visit and multi-step forms may need to be completed in one session.
7. Changes to this policy
We will update this page if we add, remove or change any stored item. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. For how we handle personal information more generally, see the Privacy Policy.
