Anjali leads the firm's corporate, startup and banking practice. She has advised on more than 300 company registrations at the Office of the Company Registrar, structured share transfers for family businesses moving to their second generation, and negotiated facility agreements with most of Nepal's class A commercial banks. Before founding Motherland Legal in 2016 she spent six years in the legal department of a commercial bank, where she learned how lenders actually read a borrower's paperwork.
She is regularly asked to speak at startup incubators in Kathmandu and Pokhara on shareholder agreements and foreign investment approvals, and she sits on the corporate law committee of a national bar association. Clients describe her as direct: she will tell you when a structure is more complicated than your business needs.
Approach
Anjali starts every engagement by asking what the business needs to look like in three years, then works backwards to the documents required today. She prefers short agreements written in language a director can actually read, and she flags regulatory risk early rather than after the term sheet is signed.
